Yoane Wissa looks set to leave Brentford, with strong interest from clubs across Europe, the Premier League, and Saudi Arabia.
The 28-year-old DR Congo forward recently returned to first-team training after resolving some internal issues with the coaching staff. However, his desire to move on from the club hasn’t changed, and sources close to the player’s representatives expect a transfer to happen before the window closes.
Wissa’s return to the squad marks his first appearance since unexpectedly leaving Brentford’s pre-season tour in Portugal on July 21. Despite his return, the club is preparing for his departure, having set a £50 million asking price for the striker, who netted 20 goals last season.
That price tag has reportedly deterred some clubs, but interest remains high. In the Premier League, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool have all expressed interest. Newcastle are currently leading the chase, having already had one offer rejected but continuing negotiations. Wissa is said to be keen on joining Eddie Howe’s side at St. James’ Park.
Tottenham are also tracking the situation but have been hesitant to meet Brentford’s full valuation. Meanwhile, Liverpool see Wissa as a backup option should their move for Alexander Isak fall through and may enter the race depending on how things unfold.
Interest extends beyond Europe as well. Saudi clubs, including Al Nassr—with stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix—are reportedly willing to meet Brentford’s price. Another Saudi team, Neom, has also joined the competition, aiming to strengthen their squad with a proven Premier League talent.
With multiple negotiations in progress and interest rising, Wissa’s departure from Brentford appears to be a matter of when—not if.
